Henk van der Vorst

After many years of employment as a professor in computer mathematics, I am since 2006 full time involved in graphics, design, and origami. With origami, I am mainly interested in the design of 3-D paper sculptures and the combination with my graphical designs. The origami techniques used, are more widely known as geometric origami and crumpling. My graphical work concerns mainly portraits and multiple linocut printings (that is one such linocut print is made with up to several hundreds of stamps with small linocut prints). In my design work, I construct tiles that can be rotated and/or reflected, so that interesting tilings arise. With these designs, I also cover imaginary 3D objects (mainly paper folded objects). Some of the designs are implemented on ceramic plates or on textile. In my work it is important to see my handwork. Even when the computer is used, for instance for the construction of larger tilings, then the basic tiles are always made by hand.
