Exploring a range of print-making techniques combined with collage, Jo has created a series of pieces which have been described as “unique variants.” The symbols and icons embedded in these works are drawn from her own explorations of mystic and yogic traditions along with autobiographical references. As a skywatcher, near and far, Jo gathers the nuances of earth, water and sky in her radiant oil paintings. Many elicit a feeling of contemplation and transformation.
Jo paints out of her studio in Sea Cliff and prints at the EFA Blackburn Print Studio in Manhattan. During her MFA studies at C.W.Post, Jo specialized in relief, intaglio and planographic printing techniques. Her multiple images allow her to transform the theme over and over again in endless variations, just as a composer develops a musical theme by transforming it.
