Do you have any goals or resolutions for your artistic practice in 2021?
Create work at home despite lack of studio space. I have a shared studio on campus at HSU, my local university, but it’s limited in access from Covid and I graduate in May.
Can you detail the story behind one of your works selected for the exhibition?
For all my works, it starts out by me becoming inspired in the moment to take a picture of my girls. For Moms Don’t Always Get To Shower Alone, I was starting a shower for my girls when I suddenly got a flash of inspiration to paint what it was like for me, as a mom, to shower with my kids. I got my daughter’s permission to take a picture, being careful of her privacy, and worked from that.
What attracted you to the b.j. spoke gallery open call?
It was completely online, I didn’t have to worry about shipping the work and how I was going to get to the opening reception if I was accepted.
