Kimberlyn Bloise

Artist Statement
“I create arrangements of ceramic forms of stacked, wafer-thin layers as representation of my movement through life. To me, moving through the world is a journey of transitions, transformations, repetition, failures and growth. Creating a visual rhythm through color and transformation of form to demonstrate the journey is important to my work. During the making process, I push the boundaries of the clay, making each piece extremely fragile. I endeavor to conjure the “call of the void” through my sculpture. Something so delicate and textured can be so enticing to the voice in your head telling you to touch it, to break it. Some of my sculptures are reserved for viewer participation, as I allow them to touch and break the layers. I document the gradual ruin of the piece as it encounters many hands, and it becomes evidence of destruction and temporality.”
