E. Krathen Morris – Marbled Fragments 03

What appear to be works of abstraction are actually a combination of collage fragments of actual examples of marbled paper (as used inside book covers) combined with renderings in oil pastel meant to expand or ‘echo’ these fragments, allowing the white paper to separate all these fragments. In short, my submitted works are a form of “representational abstraction” using collage with rendered extensions of the collage fragments in oil pastel. The bright red elements in each work are derived from a specific type of marbled paper, exaggerated in scale for juxtaposition and intended to unite the series.
